MentorLab

Mentorship for South African students

The dinner-table conversation about your career, for every student.

Free, structured, vetted mentorship for students and young innovators, built for low-data phones, that universities, companies and incubators can run as cohorts.

Who it is for

Picture a first-generation student in KwaZulu-Natal, the first in her family at university. She has the marks, but nobody at home can tell her how to get a first job, the way a graduate with professional parents hears it over dinner.

On MentorLab she finds a vetted professional who has walked the path, books a session in the mentor's open hours, and meets on a call, on a cheap phone, with her sessions still readable when the signal drops.

How it works

  1. Sign up

Create a mentee account and give consent for how your information is used.

  2. Find a mentor

Browse vetted professionals by field and see their open times this week.

  3. Book a session

Request an open slot. The mentor approves, and chat opens.

  4. Meet

Join the video call from the app, on Android, the web or Windows.

  5. Follow up

Leave feedback after every session, so a poor match is caught early.

Vetted mentors

An administrator checks identity, LinkedIn and references before any mentee sees a mentor.

Works offline

Sessions, chat history and the mentor directory stay readable on a cheap phone. Messages written offline send when the signal returns.

Booking in open hours

Mentors set their own hours; mentees book inside them, with the video call in the app.

For universities, companies and incubators

Run mentorship as cohorts. Import your members, assign mentors, and see who met and what changed.
